On the 31st October, Attitude Inc will be at Crepe City – the biggest and best sneaker convention in Europe and host to the world’s largest market of exclusive and hard to find sneakers.
With exhibitors and sneakerheads from across the globe attending the event, we caught up with Morgan from Crepe City to have a chat about what we can expect from the event, their history, and of course, to find out what his all-time favourite kicks are.
How did Crepe City start?
Crepe City was founded in 2009 by my friends Ron and Paul as a place to buy, sell and trade trainers. Before that, we had always used forums like Crooked Tongues and NikeTalk and decided to start our own KicksXChange, which quickly grew into one of the biggest global forums for buying and selling trainers.
From humble beginnings, we are now recognised as one of the greatest events in the world, and the UK’s original.
How long have you been sneakerheads for?
I’ve been into trainers for 10 years now and started getting involved with the community, attending events and meets around 6 years back. I’ve made some great friends just off trainers and that’s what counts
What was your first pair of trainers?
When I was younger each year I got taken to the local sports shop to buy gear for football and after-school clubs. The shop was tiny but it had a great range of Nike.
One trip I managed to badger my mum to get me a pair of Nike Dunk’s that at the time were really popular in school, then I used to rock black Air Force One’s as part of my uniform, and I guess that’s what started it all.
How has Crepe City grown over the years from the first event in Notting Hill?
Massively! We used to run the event in a basement, now it takes up 60,000sqft of one of London’s greatest venues. I remember at our 7th event we had fans queueing for 4 hours just to get inside, that really knocked home that we had to up our game. People can’t seem to get enough of the event – eagerly awaiting the next edition. We must be doing something right!
What can we expect from the Crepe City event on October 31st?
We always aim to improve on every event. I listen every bit of feedback after each event and ask our community what they would like to see at the next event and act on it. For our 14th event you can expect more collaborations, sellers from all over the world, brands showcasing new products, exclusives, and much more!
We’ve always been a little rough around the edges and I think people appreciate that and see the authenticity. We are still collectors with a love for the game – just like them.
Favourite kicks this year?
It’s not over yet, but I’m going to have to say the adidas Ultra Boost. It’s chocked up in the performance category, but as lifestyle shoe, to me it’s pretty much perfect.
Favourite kicks ever?
Ron would say Nike Huarache Lights, but my personal all-time faves are adidas EQT 93’s.
Most overhyped kicks?
High fashion trainers, like Giuseppe Zanotti, Versace, Gucci, and Maison Margiela. I couldn’t pull them off if I tried.
And the most underrated?
Nike Zoom Spiridon, Nike Foamposites, and the New Balance NB 993.
What about the best collaboration?
There’s been so many this year it’s hard to choose, but the Footpatrol x Asics Gel Lyte III are up there.
Which brands do you think are killing it right now?
The big three are bringing it – adidas, Asics and Nike have all had some amazing releases this year.
What upcoming releases are you most excited about?
I get really nerdy over shoe tech and I’ve seen some bits from adidas next year that have got me saving already!
What have your best moments over the last 6 years been?
Tickets and some of the collaborations that I’ve worked on selling out in minutes, seeing people line up down the street for Crepe City is always a wonderful feeling! I just want to give our guests a good time and make an event worth attending! If you see me about please stop and say hello!
Any plans for more collaborations soon?
Always got something in the works, but I like to keep things quiet until the big reveal.
