Location – Adidas, 15 Foubert’s Place, Carnaby Street, London
On Thursday night, Crepe City held a behind-closed-doors launch party for the second issue of their magazine, made in support of the event of the same name which is returning to the Old Truman Brewery in Shoreditch on the 30th April. The drinks were flowing, and prominent faces in the sneaker community were everywhere.
The relatively small store was full to the brim, with everyone dressed to the nines in some of the most recognizable and lauded streetwear pieces and sneakers. Adidas was obviously frequently on show, NMD’s dominated but some classic Gazelle and Tobacco colourways were also on display, treated by many as collectors items nowadays. The vending machine in the store that usually dispenses a variety of adidas accessories was instead filled with Crepe City magazines, a nice alternative to the boring old paying-with-cash method.
The magazine is highly informative, providing lots of information on some classic sneakers, whilst also highlighting recent innovations in the industry. The NMD does take centre stage with an incredible front cover, but other sneakers like the incredibly popular CDG x Converse Chuck Taylor 70’s pictured above are also featured along with a slew of the best, old and new, releases from Nike, Vans, Puma, New Balance, Asics and Saucony. It’s all presented in a highly readable way, making it accessible for just about anyone, from day-one sneakerheads to those who are just getting involved in the scene and want to learn some of the history behind it.
It was great meeting a variety of new and old faces. The best thing about these events, is that you’re all there with a mutual love of sneakers, meaning you’re never short of something to talk about. Shoutouts especially go to Ediz, Amir, Vivian and Morgan for making me feel so welcome. Roll on the next one!
