Nike loves reworking staple models to create new and innovative sneakers in terms of both performance and style. They’ve done exactly that again, this time in the form of the SB Air Zoom Stefan Janoski Slip which builds on the incredibly popular SB Air Zoom Stefan Janoski. As can be guessed from the name of the sneaker, the traditional lacing system on the original Janoski has been removed, and the result is a deconstructed Janoski that’s the perfect slip-on-and-go sneaker for the summer ahead!
Nike is one of the more responsive companies in the sneaker world, there have been numerous occasions over the years where they have responded to consumer needs, and this is but another example of that. The original Janoski was, and still is, a vastly successful model and sits well up there as one of the most popular SB models ever. Its minimal, clean style, along with its great performance, has made it a firm favourite amongst skaters and the average consumer alike, and creating a slip-on was of course a natural point of progression for the model. The Vans Slip-On has experienced unbelievable success ever since its launch in 1979, and Adidas recently got in on the slip-on game with slip-on Matchcourts which have also been incredibly well received. This new Janoski, coming in that ultra-clean original black and white colourway which appeals to just about everyone, will no doubt bring a lot of slip-on lovers over to the Nike SB camp!
The removal of the lacing system is the only noticeable omission from this sneaker, however. As is always the case with Nike, performance features are not left wanting, as Zoom Air still features in the heel for responsive cushioning accompanied by a double stitched toebox for enhanced durability. A gore insert is applied to the tongue to offer a secure, locked-down fit in the absence of the laces, a rubber outsole with that instantly recognisable herringbone pattern offers improved traction, and the midsole and outsole are fused together for even further enhanced durability. This sneaker is evidently perfect for skating and will no doubt be just as well received by skaters as the original Janoski was upon its launch, but is also a great sneaker to have as a throw-on option for daily use, Nike really have satisfied everyone with this sneaker!
Final Thought – the simplicity of the colourway makes it easy to implement this sneaker into almost any outfit you can think of. Think of those days when you’re stuck deciding on what kicks would look perfect with the outfit you have planned – cop these, and you’ll never waste time deciding what to wear again!
