We already know from the 2014 collection just how good adidas is at reworking some of its most famous football kits to create suitable skatewear. They’ve done the same again this year for Euro 2016, along with dropping a brilliant collaboration with Welcome Skateboards!
The 2014 Copa pack saw some beautiful Germany, USA, Spain, France, Brazil and of course England jerseys created in partnership with some of adidas skateboardings’ best pros from those respective countries. they were met with a great reception and sold out everywhere, and its likely this newest collection is going to go the same way! This time around, adidas has worked with Silas Baxter-Neal and Dennis Busenitz as new additions, and Lucas Puig returns, with all of them giving their take on some of the most popular football kits ever seen. Whereas last time, skaters were only able to pick kit inspirations from their respective countries, Busenitz and co. have been given freedom this time to choose from any adidas vintage kits for inspiration, and the results have proved fantastic.
Lucas gets a black Spain jersey this time around, with a black and white diamond pattern running down the left side of the jersey to give that retro feel, and a polo collar is added to enhance the nostalgia. Silas produces arguably the standout piece in the pack, with a sea-green Germany jersey featuring contrasting black, red and turquoise stripes running across the shoulders and a very thin trim of the same three colours on the v-neck collar. Dennis comes strong also with a white France kit that has thick blue and red stripes along the shoulders and arms, along with a blue v-neck collar. adidas branding is kept to a minimum so that nothing detracts from the design of the jerseys, with small Originals logos featuring on the front of the collar on the Dennis and Silas jerseys, and in the centre of the Lucas jersey just above the large number 7. Overall, these jerseys build fantastically on the success of the first pack, and the creative freedom given to the riders really has paid off, don’t expect these to hang around for long!
Next up is the adidas x Welcome Skateboards collaboration, which consists of a very nice jersey and a clean Matchcourt. The jersey is kept fairly simple in comparison to the adidas Copa jerseys, with a simple white colour up and black details. adidas Skateboarding and Welcome Skateboards logos feature on the left and right chest of the jersey respectively, and large WELCOME branding features across the text in that signature Welcome Skateboards font. The trademark Three Stripes run down the shoulder of the jersey in black, along with large black semi-circles that run along the stitching of the shoulder giving a sharper, bolder look to the jersey. On the back of the jersey is a large Welcome Skateboards logo in black, and the jersey features a tonal all-over print of the Welcome Skateboards triangle logo adding that little something to make the jersey a special piece. The Matchcourt-Mid sneakers in the pack come in a turquoise suede with a canvas overlay on the heel, canvas and tongue and of course, that characteristically-Matchcourt raised rubber toecap which offers much improved durability when skating. The midsole is kept white as is the case with most Matchcourt releases, and the laces, stripes and Welcome branding are made black to create a nice contrast against the bright upper. This collaboration is sure to be a hit!
The Copa jerseys are live now on the Attitude Inc. website and are also in store, and the Welcome jersey is online now and will be in store soon along with the Matchcourt-Mid. Don’t hang about if you’re after a piece, though, limited quantities and jerseys this good means they’re sure to fly out!
Final Thought – any of the jerseys are perfect for summer, all of them feature Clima-Cool technology and the rest of adidas’ latest performance features!
