The adidas Skateboarding “Away Days” video has been three years in the making, so the hype has certainly been building for quite some time. Having never released a full skate video before, it was interesting to see the approach adidas would take, and boy did they smash it.
A host of adidas’ top pros featured in the video, which was well over an hour long. it was very much a no frills video, with only a few small skits and occasional commentary from the skate behemoth and adidas athlete Mark Gonzales. The rest of the video featured skaters from Dennis Busenitz, pictured above, to Lucas Puig and Nakel Smith, all tearing up a host of spots across the world.
After the Polar Skate Co. video, “I Like It Here Inside My Mind”, the bar was very high but adidas certainly delivered. Large gaps, intricate grinds, and fast flatground tricks compromised the majority of the video, as each skater was given a certain amount of time to show off their variety of skills. Individual flair was present in each skater’s part, and the combination of all of this culminated in a video with a strong coherence of incredible skating along with a clear focus on each skater’s individual abilities.
The Colchester skate scene was in high attendance once again, and it made for a great atmosphere as everyone’s mutual love for skateboarding allowed for everyone to chat and become friends. The majority then went out afterwards to skate a host of spots around Colchester, inspired by the brilliance in the Away Days video.
All in all, it was a very successful premier and certainly won’t be the last, expect to see more of these in the coming months. If you couldn’t make it down for this one, make sure you don’t miss out again!
