Hotel Blue is the brainchild of Nick Von Werssowetz, the skate filmer behind cult label Lurk NYC which has rapidly grown in prominence in the skate scene as of late. Hotel Blue is one of the few brands arising recently that has no focus on basic trends of the moment, Nick is instead placing an onus on producing high quality, simple clothes with accessible graphics. It is, in every sense of the phrase, for skateboarders, by skateboarders.
The team that Nick has assembled right from the off is formidable to say the least. Giovanni Vacca, Adam Becerra, Mark Poole, Dylan Fulford, and Will Blakley are all on board, with all of them laying down very strong parts in Hotel Blue’s first promo vid which released a few weeks ago. The team tears up a host of spots in New York with intricate grinds, big ollies, and a very distinctive off-the-wall style that leads to them creating spots out of nothing. Certainly a team to keep your eye on.
Now for the clothing. Seeing as the brand has only just started out, it’s kicked off with a small run of t-shirts. The first style we see is the Hotel Blue t-shirt, featuring the brand’s moniker across the chest. On the blue tee on the left above it comes in white, and on the yellow tee on the right it comes in black, contrasting nicely against the backdrop on both iterations. Its small size makes the t-shirt very versatile and highly wearable.
The second t-shirt arrival has been graced with some original artwork from Hotel Blue. The Vinyl t-shirt features a large screen printed graphic of a a record on the back, with Hotel Blue branding in the middle of it, and a blue screen printed saxophone on the chest. This t-shirt comes in black or white, serving as nicely toned-down alternatives to the louder Hotel Blue t-shirts above. A 100% cotton construction means fit, quality and comfort are all on point.
Hotel Blue has also produced a skate deck (naturally) which slots nicely into this first collection. It’s radically different to the t-shirts we’ve seen, coming in a grey/black colour which exposes the wood grain of the deck beautifully, adding a real vintage feel. Artwork comes in the form of a black outlined hotel, with one room with a light on at the top right of the hotel, and yellow Hotel Blue text at the bottom right of the graphic. A nice minimal deck that complements the rest of the collection nicely.
The whole collection is available both online and in-store here at Attitude Inc. right now. Act fast if you want to cop anything, though, it’s highly limited!
