Saucony has hit us with a slew of great releases recently, with the Bodega collab and Public Gardens Pack providing four quality sneakers to satisfy our retro runner appetites. The onslaught hasn’t stopped there, though, as this Friday we see the arrival of the GRID SD “Pumpkin Spice”, a sneaker that draws perfectly on the Autumn we’re now immersed in.
This latest release is part of the new Saucony Select range, a tier that will essentially consist of collaboration-level sneakers, without applying the collaboration title (the GRID 8000 “Shrimp Scampi” being an example). The quality and craftsmanship of a Saucony sneaker is always on point, but the New England natives have kicked it up a notch this time around as we see a variety of premium materials grace the upper. On the forefoot we have a soft grey Wolverine silkee suede, featuring perforations all over which enhance breathability significantly, whilst matching the speckled midsole perfectly. This transitions into a burnt orange suede on the midfoot, with metallic orange accents adding a shimmering style to the otherwise matted sneaker. Saucony’s branding on the lateral and medial sides of the shoe come in a burnt orange tumbled leather, the difference in material putting emphasis on the logos without detracting from the overall colourway. Saucony text features on the heel in a brighter orange, matching the colour of the leather lining, and finally a brown coffee logo has been added to the suede tongue, featuring a white leaf artwork akin to that produced by Starbucks. It’s not the first time Saucony has looked to coffee for inspiration; the Irish Coffee Pack last year was one of Saucony’s standout releases in 2015, and the tried and tested formula has worked oh so well again this time around. The temperatures may be falling, but Saucony has certainly ramped up the heat with this release!
Moving downwards, the sole of the shoe has been incredibly well-executed and contributes massively to the success of the colourway. Around the front of the shoe, the midsole is a soft grey colour with black speckles, which transitions into a very rich burgundy colourway at the midfoot and heel, adding another colour that blends with the upper perfectly. On the outsole, we a deep brown juxtaposed with a bright orange, and a burnt orange colour also, which all match the palette of the sneaker perfectly to create a very cohesive colourway overall. GRID cushioning has of course been incorporated, Saucony’s best cushioning technology in its Originals line. GRID is in fact an acronym for Ground Reaction Inertia Device, Saucony’s patented technology that consists of woven Hytrel filaments which absorb and deflect the impact experienced at the heel with each step. So where the colourway takes care of style comprehensively, GRID takes care of comfort.
The GRID SD “Pumpkin Spice” is launching both online and in-store here at Attitude Inc. this Friday, 28th October. A sneaker of this calibre is of course highly limited, and hype is building very fast, so act quickly if you want to cop.
