The seasonal collections produced by American skate label Theories of Atlantis have fast become a favourite here at Attitude Inc., with conspiracy theories being a frequent reference point for interesting graphics placed on great quality t-shirts, hoodies and more. The same has continued for AW16, with the brand producing a pullover hoody, three crewneck t-shirts and two hats as well. It’s a tongue-in-cheek collection not just in terms of the conspiracy theories that inspired it!
The only hoodie in the Holiday collection is the Peaks Pullover Hoodie pictured above, coming in a simple black colourway. Many of you will recognise the logo that Theories has screen printed onto the chest of the hoodie as that of Patagonia, a famed outdoor brand that also has a great name in the streetwear world. While at first glance it may look like Patagonia’s graphic re-appropriated with Theories text, upon closer inspection it becomes clear that the jagged mountain outline in the Patagonia logo has been traded out for a simpler one more akin to pyramids, and a small UFO has been added, flying in the sky to the right of the pyramids – you can see where Theories is going with this one. This is the brand’s allusion to the theory that the Ancient Egyptian Pyramids were in fact built by (or at least with the help of) aliens. Did you expect any less from the brand! The base hoodie itself is of great quality, constructed from 80% cotton and 20% polyester and providing a snug, close fit, so this is a winner in every aspect.
The same Peaks graphic on the hoodie has appeared on a t-shirt as well this season, in a very unique Espresso colourway, which is pictured on the left above. Theories has used the tried and tested method of screen printing the logo onto the chest in a small size, and then in a larger size across the back, funnily enough in the exact same way that Patagonia creates its t-shirts (definitely on purpose!). The t-shirt itself is of a very high quality, with a 100% cotton construction and narrow, comfortable fit (Theories recommends that if you fit between sizes, you should size up), and the colourway is most certainly a stylish one with a very autumnal feel to it. On the right above, we have the more toned down Theoramid t-shirt, in a simple black/yellow colourway. It makes sense for this graphic to return this season, with the Pyramids being the central focus of the Holiday collection. A golden yellow pyramid with the top chopped off and replaced by a sun logo with a T inside it, and Theories text running along the bottom row of pyramid blocks in black, has been screen printed onto the pocket on the left of the chest. No back print is featured, to make this a subtle t-shirt that perfectly merges Theories style with simplicity. Again, the t-shirt has been constructed from 100% cotton and offers a narrow fit, so quality is guaranteed. Also in the new collection is the Purple Moon t-shirt, which you can check out here.
The Peaks graphic makes its final appearance on the cotton twill snapback pictured on the left above. The black hat’s cotton twill construction makes it incredibly high quality, and the snap-closure system means it will fit just about anyone. Quality is further enhanced by the fact that the Peaks logo on the front, coming in a very large size, has been intricately embroidered rather than screen printed, a move not made by many streetwear brands. Theories itself describes the hat as an instant classic, and they really aren’t wrong! On the right above, we see the more basic STAMP cotton twill snapback, coming in a Maroon colourway. On its website, Theories sums the hat up beautifully – “subtle yet solid”. Conspiracy theories have been traded out for a stripped back approach, with Theories text embroidered in white onto the front of the hat to create a clean maroon/white colourway that oozes style.
