Whereas newer upstarts in the skateboarding world often take a clean and minimal approach to apparel (and decks, too), many of the OG skate labels built themselves around the idea of skating being anti-everything. HUF is one of those labels, and it has retained its “fuck you” attitude over the years, often in a very explicit way. That’s the case again this season – Keith Hufnagel’s imprint has teamed up with notorious men’s magazine (if you want to call it that) Penthouse, for a sensual and erotic collection that hits all the right spots.
Only the one hoodie arrival with the collection, the Palms Hoodie on the right above. Its quality is impeccable, with a 380GSM cotton construction giving it a good weight and overall thickness to make it very suitable for the remainder of the winter. A soft French terry lining provides a fleecy interior that will wick sweat from the skin to keep you cool and dry for longer, too – so you won’t be needing to look for another hoodie come Spring and Summer. The all-over palm print simply oozes summer style, brightening the black hoodie incredibly, and down the sleeves we see embroidered white Penthouse text, again very high in quality. Capping things off is an embroidered Penthouse key logo on the left of the chest, a microcosm of the overall stylish and intricate hoodie.
On the left above we have the first of a few t-shirts, the Rose Tee in Banana Yellow. Also made from cotton, the t-shirt features the usual high quality we’ve come to expect from HUF, very soft and comfortable in nature. Down the left of the torso we see screen printed Penthouse/HUF text in black, contrasting strongly against the yellow backdrop with a real nostalgic feel to it. On the back, a custom graphic from Penthouse has been screen printed across the shoulders, simple titled “Rose”. We’ll leave that one for you guys to work out.
The longsleeve t-shirts have to go down as the best items in the new collection. On the left above we have the Lips Tee, coming in a subtle Black colourway. The 100% cotton t-shirt is incredibly soft and comfortable, with ribbed wrist cuffs and neckline providing a more streamlined fit, and so very suitable for skating. Things in the style stakes are taken care of by the white screen printed Penthouse/HUF text across the top of the chest, providing the low-key branding that has made this collab so clean, and oversized screen printed graphic of a woman locking her lips across the shoulders. The shades of red and nude in the graphic stand out strongly from the sleek black backdrop, creating by far and away the most sensual piece in the collection.
The Photo Tee on the right above is so very HUF. Sleeve graphics are always a plus when it comes to longsleeve t-shirts, and here we see a Penthouse-taken photo repeated down both arms, standing out strongly against the light blue t-shirt. Black screen printed Penthouse/HUF text appears on the top of the chest, muting things appropriately, and again the t-shirt has been made from 100% cotton. There’s a pattern emerging here, isn’t there?
Moving on from t-shirts, and we have three hats due to arrive, two of them pictured above. On the left we have the Curve Brim Hat, one of HUF’s most popular cap styles at the moment. It has been made using a cotton twill, which makes it durable and breathable without being too structured, meaning its suitable for just about anyone. The fit can be adjusted at the back via a strap and clasp, and on the crown we see embroidered Penthouse text in white, giving the hat a very spring/summer feeling overall.
The hat on the right, the Trucker Hat, has a similar vibe to it, coming in a very summery light blue/white colourway. The white front panel features a printed Penthouse graphic and accompanying text down the side in a contrasting yellow, and the back of the hat comes in a light blue mesh, providing great breathability. It’s ideal for keeping you both cool and stylish over the coming months.
As Indiana Jones famously says – socks, there has to be socks! OK we may have got that a little wrong, but it is HUF after all, a brand whose most popular item is a pair of socks with bright weed leaves featured all over – there was always going to be socks in this collab. On the right above we have the Holly O Socks in blue, which we can only assume are named after the Penthouse girl repeatedly featured on them. A great pair to have for when the shorts come out this summer (unless its a family occasion!). If they don’t take your fancy, Diane and Carole socks will also be arriving, so you can choose your favourite girl/colourway of the three.
And finally, being a skate brand, HUF couldn’t not do a deck as part of this collab. Gracing a 100% Canadian hardrock maple wood, 8.25″ x 31″ deck is the same Photo Reel graphic that we saw on the light blue longsleeve t-shirt above. With a very vintage, Polaroid-style aesthetic, this deck is by far and away one of the best we’ll see all year, with an incredibly sensual and surprisingly high-brow feel to it. It even comes packaged in a custom black plastic “magazine sleeve”, the perfect finishing touch to a great deck that caps off an overall exquisite collection.
The HUF x Penthouse collection will be releasing online here at Attitude Inc. on Monday 16th January, and will also be in our Colchester and Ipswich stores on the same day. It is of course highly limited, with certain items limited to just ONE, so act fast if there’s anything that catches your eye (no doubt there is).
