Fucking Awesome is More Graphic than Ever for Spring ’17

March 14, 2017 Alan Lonergan - No Comments

Eagerly anticipating the latest drop from cult US skate label Fucking Awesome is always worth it, because you’re never left disappointed – they’re always pretty damn sweet. That is again the case for Spring ’17, as the brand goes down a new route with less of the OG text logo and more hard-hitting graphics across a variety of skating apparel. The decks and accessories have stepped up a notch this season, too, the former in particular with one deck being truly spectacular.

There’s sadly no outerwear outside of a restock of the Field Jacket, understandable seeing as we’re coming in to Spring and Summer – but there are three new hoodie styles and four colourways in total. First up we have the Embroidered Logo Hoodie in Navy, pictured on the left above. Constructed exclusively from cotton, the hoodie offers great comfort and is relatively thick, but won’t weigh you down in the slightest. The hood is adjustable via a drawstring, and the wrists and waist are ribbed, both of which offer an improved, streamlined fit. The standout feature, though, is of course the heavily embroidered cream Fucking Awesome text that arcs around the hood. Maximal branding, but because of where it has been placed, the hoodie is nice and subtle on the whole.

The Dictionary Hoodie on the right above is similarly low-key. Again constructed from cotton, it is very soft and thick, with a plush lining offering great comfort and warmth. Ribbing at the wrists and waist offers a snug fit, and a drawstring lets you adjust the hood. Down the sleeves, FA’s Dictionary graphic has been screen printed in a tonal red colour, and there’s small Fucking Awesome text screen printed on the left of the chest in white. The colourway of the hoodie itself is the real standout here, and the subtle nature of the graphic reinforces that. The other hoodie in the collection is the Eyes Hoodie, which comes in Black.

Another new graphic this season is the Le Coer print, which appears on a variety of t-shirts – on the left above we see it on a Banana Yellow short sleeve, one of FA’s favourite t-shirt colours seemingly. Cut solely from cotton, the t-shirt is remarkably soft and comfy, the latter being enhanced hugely by the ribbed neckline. The short sleeves are very functional, enhancing breathability which will benefit you in the coming summer, and the relaxed fit is one that will suit anyone. In the centre of the chest, the Le Coer graphic has been screen printed in greyscale, featuring Fucking Awesome’s Inverted Text Logo at the bottom for maximum impact. The most summer-ready t-shirt arrival we’ve got from FA most certainly, but if that colourway is too loud, there’s more subtle ones to choose from too.

The Eyes graphic features on two t-shirts this season, one of which is Black and pictured on the right above. Again, the t-shirt has been made using cotton, and features a ribbed neckline for improved comfort. The short sleeves maximise both breathability and freedom of movement, and the relaxed fit provided is one that works for anyone and everyone. In the centre of the chest, the Eyes graphic has been screen printed in greyscale (a recurring theme in this collection), every bit as haunting and eery as we’d expect from FA.

Two new headwear arrivals on this occasion, one six panel cap and one beanie. On the left above we have the Breakthru Logo Cap in Black, a logo that returns after a very strong showing two collections ago. The hat itself has been made using a cotton twill material, very tough and durable without being too structured. That latter point is particularly crucial, because combining with the six-panel build, it ensures that the hat offers a low-profile fit that’ll suit just about anyone. It can be adjusted via a snap closure system at the back, and there’s an embroidered eyelet on each panel for improved breathability. Finally, the Breakthru logo has been embroidered onto the crown, remarkably high in quality.

The first beanie we’ve ever seen from Fucking Awesome is every bit as good as we’d hoped. An acrylic material, very soft and flexible, has been utilised, which works with the ribbed construction to ensure an adaptable and secure fit. A single cuff on the front makes the beanie more shallow, and at the same time suitable for more people, and in the centre of said cuff, Fucking Awesome text has been embroidered in bold yellow. It even features a thin black outline for a more crisp appearance.

The decks might just be the highlight of the new collection, because they’re certainly the best we’ve ever had from FA. The Dill Towers deck on the left is the latest to feature a hologram, a technique that has produced some unreal decks from FA in the past. From one angle you have a picture of the Twin Towers standing golden and proud, but when the deck is tilted it changes to a picture of Dill in front of the towers with his hair, and smoke from one of the buildings, billowing heavily. At 8.25″, it’s a great size for skating, but we wouldn’t be surprised if you were hanging this up on your wall instead.

The deck on the right above is particularly special, too, the latest in the Class Photo series which is arguably the most popular style of deck FA produces. This time, Sean Pablo’s class photo has been placed on an orange board, his first signature deck with FA since turning pro for them only a matter of weeks ago. He’s been killing it for some time now, with starring parts for FA, CONS and Supreme, so this was more than deserved.

Everything pictured above, and more, is available right here on our website and also in our Colchester store. Don’t expect it to hang around for long, though. Quantities are limited, and it is Fucking Awesome after all!
