This season has been simply amazing here at Attitude, particularly in terms of sneakers – we’ve had an absolute barrage of top-class releases since the turn of the year. Said barrage has been perpetuated predominantly by New England natives Saucony, and at this point it feels like we’re getting a new knockout sneaker every weekend – we’re certainly not complaining! This week we have the “Chocolate Pack”, which sees two luxurious colourways draped over the classic Shadow 5000, certain to satisfy your sneaker sweet tooth.
As is often the case with the proud brand, Saucony again looks to an area of its home state Massachusetts for inspiration. Cambridge, MA has a deep-rooted connection with confectionery, dating back to 1765 when Irish immigrant John Hannon set up the first chocolate mill in the USA, along the Neponset River. That formed the basis for decades of candy production in Cambridge from some of the biggest players in the sweets world, with everything from Junior Mints to Charleston Chews being made on Main Street, Kendall Square. If there’s any doubt in your mind about how significant this street came to be, it was for a long while known as “Confectioner’s Row”, with as many as 66 different candy makers residing there. Saucony has honoured this integral part of New England history in pretty awesome fashion.
Both of the colourways gracing the Shadow 5000 follow the same stylistic approach. On the toeboxes we see cracked leather in brown and white, with a flaky look to them and slight shine to signify their high quality. That transitions into suede around the quarter and heel on both shoes, a winning combination because of the support and premium appearance that both materials provide. The suede lacestays feature a few hits of gold, and there’s also a gold Saucony logo on the tongue and gold heel counter, all of which represent the foil packaging our favourite chocolates come in. The midsoles comes in off-white to enhance the refined style of the shoes, featuring a frequent speckle to complement the uppers, and the outsoles are both iced out. The hardest choice you have to make is whether you prefer white or milk chocolate!
As ever, the tech features that made the Shadow 5000 many a runner’s choice back in the day remain. The EVA foam midsoles are very responsive and absorb shock to great effect, ensuring a smooth walking experience with each step. The sole shapes are also staggered, providing a rolling sensation with each step as you take off on the board of your foot. The XT-600 triangular lug rubber outsoles performs as good as their name suggests, too, offering great grip on all surfaces so that no matter where you take these, you’ll never have to worry about traction.
Both of the sneakers in the Saucony Shadow 5000 “Chocolate Pack” are launching here at Attitude on Saturday, 15th April. Check out our Instagram to see how you can get yourself a pair, you’d want to be quick!
