More French Flavour with Helas’ SS17 Collection

Helas has come through with the goods for SS17, dropping another collection that builds on the great foundations of the last. This time around, Lucas Puig’s brand harks back to the ’80s, with a variety of tracksuits, hoodies and t-shirts in vintage-tinged bold colourways. Standing out from the crowd has never looked so good!

The lookbook shot by Helas follows the style of Palace Skateboards, with a projector displaying wavy graphics behind models sporting the various different apparel pieces. It’s very fitting, nicely highlighting the vivid green, pink and blue hits that are present throughout the collection. Definitely the standout piece is the Turbo Track Jacket, pictured above. With a honeycomb nylon construction and flexible mesh lining, the jacket is remarkably breathable, perfect for those summer days when wind and rain might spoil the fun. Ribbing has been added to the neck and wrists, plus the waist is elasticated, to ensure a streamlined track jacket fit, and a teal green band wraps around the chest and back, bearing Helas text on the latter and an Umbrella logo on the former. Another addition to break things up colour-wise is the white on the shoulders and upper arms, which complement the text and Umbrella logos very nicely. Finally, Helas has of course considered the little things, adding a custom Helas-branded tab to the front zip and two front pockets for storage.

That’s not your only outerwear option in the new collection, either. Another particular highlight is the Big H Track Jacket, which comes in an unreal white/blue/pink colourway, certainly the most statement-making piece of the lot. Again a nylon honeycomb material has been used, creating a flexible and water-resistant outer shell, with a mesh lining enhancing breathability. Blue runs down the right sleeve and appears at the front of the waist, and pink runs from the left sleeve up to the funnel neck and down the chest, creating a large H logo in white. If that wasn’t enough for you, there’s also vertical blue Helas text on the back. Functionality has been prioritised again here, with the addition of zips to secure the side pockets, and ribbing at the waist and wrists for an aerodynamic fit.

It simply wouldn’t be a Helas collection without matching tracksuit bottoms for the jackets. The black Turbo Jacket has matching black Turbo Track Pants, with a clean green waistband and white Umbrella logo to ensure a cohesive colourway. Again, these have been made using honeycomb nylon, so if you fancy breaking out the full tracksuit, you’re definitely getting maximum protection against the elements. Cuffed ankles and a drawstring-adjustable waist ensure an adaptable, personal fit, and two front pockets and a back one have been added, all secured by zips. Certainly every bit as good as the jacket, you’d be doing yourself and injustice by getting only one or the other!

There may be hotter weather approaching (with any luck), but you’re still going to need some longsleeve t-shirts and a hoodie or two. Thankfully Helas has covered these bases with the Polo Club Longsleeve and Umb Linerz Hoodie, coming in white and black respectively. The former features a rich cotton construction, making it very soft and comfy, and a ribbed neckline and wrist cuffs for an improved fit. On the back and chest we see Helas’ Polo Club logo, no doubt taking inspiration from the Polo Ralph Lauren division, in a quartered royal/green/red colourway that looks fit for a day at the country club let alone skating.

The hoodie takes Helas’ signature Umbrella logo, oversizes it and drapes it across the back. Said logo has been given an awesome gradient fill colourway, with a lighter blue transitioning into a royal blue/purple moving upwards. The whole logo has been made using horizontal lines, too, for maximum Tron-style futuristic appearance. Again we’ve got ribbed wrist cuffs, and this time a ribbed waist too, creating a nice and streamlined fit. The hood is adjustable via a drawstring, and finally, the same Umb Linerz logo features on the chest for good measure.

That’s by no means all there is to the collection, either. There’s also a wild rugby shirt and another Polo Club Longsleeve among other things. You can find it all online by clicking on the images above, and in our Colchester store.
