Dennis Busenitz’s time as a senior pro skater for adidas Skateboarding has been very fruitful in terms of great footwear. His standard Busenitz model has been reworked countless times over to great effect, and the same can again be said for Fall 2017. The latest version of the shoe, the Busenitz RX, is the most deconstructed and classy iteration yet, and successfully manages to take pride of place this season in what is a very strong adidas range.
Both debut colourways, Black and Scarlet, feature the same performance specs. A premium pig skin suede upper provides great levels of both flexibility and durability, with the latter reinforced by the Busenitz’s iconic curved stitching around the toebox. We normally see the Busenitz featuring leather or canvas Three Stripes on the lateral and medial sides, but this time adidas have adopted perforations for said stripes a la Stan Smith, providing that refined, low-key appearance. Gold foil Busenitz text remains, as does the “adidas Busenitz” blue logo on the tongue. The best of the new touches, though, has to be the white TPU heel cup, which merges effortlessly with the white midsole to provide a clean a clean and crisp contrast with the upper on both shoes. The final classy touch is the leather at the top of the heel, because why not?
Despite the reduced appearance, the shoe is still very much optimised to stand up to the test that skating provides. As previously mentioned, the suede upper is highly durable, working well with the textured nature of the midsole to make the shoe long-lasting. The cupsole of an adidas Originals classic, the Spezial, has been incorporated for enhanced support and comfort, the latter being further enhanced in particular by the EVA foam sockliner. Finally, the sole is vulcanized for very precise boardfeel, and a slightly padded collar ensures a supportive, responsive fit around the lower ankle.
The Busenitz RX is available online here at Attitude and in-store, in both colourways pictured above. Being the first releases of the shoe, they’ve been kept fairly limited, so get going if you’re after a pair.
